One thing I'm learning from my YouTube experiment is that vlog-style videos are more complicated (for me) than I expected. At first my challenge was just getting my camera out and filming. I'm getting better at that, but I still can't find a decent flow with this type of video. I've tried fiddling with timing. I thought I'd do "a week in the life" vlogs, but learned quickly that sometimes my life is just hours at a computer, which is irrefutably boring. So then I tried doing monthly vlogs, which gave me more opportunity to gather better content. Sadly, it also gave me room to procrastinate and I found myself at the end of each month with precious little to post because I kept planning to "do that tomorrow."
March was a fun month though! I caught my first PWHL game (actually, that might have been the last week of February.) We scampered up to Newark to see the New York Sirens take on the Montreal Victoire. It was such a great sports environment. I especially appreciated the protest signs (abolish ICE and pro-trans athletes) when the Zambonis cut the ice. I'm adopting the Boston Fleet until D.C. gets a team. And yesterday, they clinched a playoff spot!
Next up was a quick trip to New York. As always there was plenty of sports action, with the Knicks one night and the Rangers the next. (Still not thrilled with men's hockey, but we got the tickets prior to the Olympic debacle. I wore my PWHL sweater to the game.)
That and some snow are what largely show up in the March behind-the-scenes.
What's missing?
I've been preparing for my next flute performance. I'm playing an excerpt the Star Wars theme!
I've been having equipment problems with my skates.
I've been failing miserably to keep on top of book edits.
I have some history content this close to ready to post.
I'm going to noodle my vlogging process to try to find something that works better. Perhaps focusing on events (could the Newark or NY trip have been its own vlog?) or being mindful of weeks where I have more going on that I can share.
I'm an Internet mess, but I'm having fun figuring it out.
