Reserving A Conference Room
My first conferences of 2020 are fast approaching, so I thought I’d give a quick overview of what I have on the immediate horizon.

Small Museum Association’s 36th Annual Conference
I attended this conference last year and really enjoyed it. Held in College Park, MD, February 16-18, this one is a wonderful local event. The theme this year is Honoring the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage: Museums as Catalysts of Social Change.
Some of the sessions I plan to attend include:
For the Record: The Stories of Historic Women in Their Own Words
Interpreting Women at Historic House Museums
Change the Stereotype, Change the Narrative: Best Practices for Storytelling at Historic House Museums
Making History Our Story: An On-going Case Study from an Open-Air Museum
IDEA Personal Trainer Institute

Although I no longer work primarily as a personal trainer, I do maintain my certification. It’s turned out to be helpful as the #histgym space has continued to expand. Every-other-year I attend the IDEA Personal Trainer Institute to complete my continuing education
credits. It’s held nearby in Alexandria, VA, March 5-8 and is non-stop science, training, and nutrition.
Some of the sessions I have my eye on include:
Eight Essentials of Highly Effective Program Design
Are All Calories Equal? Caloric Quality Versus Caloric Quantity
Controversies in Resistance Training: Solved
Training the Female Athlete
I’ll post shenanigans on Twitter @MER11 (#SMA2020 and #IDEAPTI) and Instagram @michelle_emick_ronholm (#SMA2020 and #IDEAPTI). And following the conferences, will share in greater detail some of the highlights. If you’re at either SMA or IDEA, I’d love to connect.
